Buying Stickers for Kids

As any parent surely knows, kids love stickers. They love peeling them off and attaching them to pages, furniture, and themselves. Still, stickers can make a great distraction for kids and prove to be a great learning tool. Here are some of the considerations to have when buying different stickers.

The Theme of the Stickers

Children express different interests in different themes and it may be a good idea to buy stickers focusing on the ideas and themes that they are passionate about. For my son it was sea creatures. We bought up every sticker book possible of sharks, whales, and fish. He learned a lot of the names and shapes of the dishes from these books and they contributed to his development. It is also a good idea to have your child step outside of their comfort zone and to pursue themes that are not there primary interest. For me, it was trucks, dinosaurs and outer space. Children learn a lot from the pictures and using stickers is more than just a mindless activity.

The Quality of the Stickers

It is a good idea to not just buy the cheapest quality stickers out there. They often fall off and don’t stick well making them ineffective to use and frustrating for children to use. Buying quality stickers will make for the best results. Avoid buying sticker books from dollar stores as the glue is cheap and the images are not as interesting as quality sticker books. Research the makers of the sticker books and consider quality makers. Also look for alternative sticker books such as those that have scents or are reusable stickers. These can provide for unique options for kids and extend the play value of the Stickers. Just make sure the stickers are age appropriate for your little ones.
